I noticed you had put a bit of info on the jail up, but that you'd never actually done one of your searches. Believe me it's alot more than just foot steps and scraping. I should know, my friend and I go there and volunteer, and we picked up alot of words from the staff. Some have said that They had seen some blurry object touch there hand, and feel something touch their shoulders. One night where we were working, there was an eerie presence there that just felt FAR too different, and my friend had said she felt something tug on her sleeve when she was in the same room alone one night. Then there is the 3rd floor, from what I've heard, there isn't much in there, and some say it's the most haunted part of the jail. There is supposed to be a woman's ashy foot prints on the wall, but there is nothing that could cause ash to be up there. one night one of the workers had set his keys down stairs and took his girlfriend up to the 3rd floor,he had told her not to say abbagail (Charles Butler's, the murderer, wide that he murdererd) three times, though she did. When they went back down stairs, every light was off and his keys were laying on the floor. Then there is a photograph my friend took of the old jail where you can see what looks like a man's face in a window on what I think is the 3rd floor if I remember correctly.

Wow sounds pretty haunted. Do you know if they give tours or have any open hours where we could come in? To bad we don't all live closer to it or else we would volunteer to just to get to check the place out. We'll add your information to the website the next time we update it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

The jail is most definitely haunted. I should know because my soul has been here for over 100 years. The creatures that inhabit my building are: the soul of charles butler of whom I am appointed guardian, the jail master, the insane clown, the unknown force in the dungeon, the man in white, and the spirits of the third level. We built this jail in 1875 and have been operational since that time. Charles murdered his wife Abigail, and was executed by hanging in 1880 so the reason we do not say her name aloud is simply for 2 reasons...so that her soul may rest in peace, and so that the evil that is butler stays dormant. The number of times you say it has no bearing, just suffice to say that it disturbs Charles to the point that he becomes angered, and has "attached" himself numerous times to a few poor ignorant folks. There are also plenty of ashen foot prints on the walls of the third floor. These are from the poor unfortunate prisoners who were touched in the head, and had to be bound on gurneys. They would then kick the walls screaming for release. I hope this answers your questions about The Haunted Jail...for more reading you can visit my website at ColumbiaCityHauntedJail.com
