Gypsy Graveyard - South East Grove Cemetery. In the early 1800’s, a band of Gypsies moved into the fields outside of Crown Point. The citizens of Crown Point, disturbed by rumors of pagan worship and noticing cattle missing, didn’t cotton too well to their new neighbors. When a dangerous flu epidemic broke out, the townsfolk turned their backs on the Gypsies, denying them medicine. There was even a hint of a massacre but nobody wrote this in any certain detail. For whichever reason, the Gypsies were dying out in Crown Point and their last act was to declare a curse on the town. A mass, primitive cemetery was laid out for all the Gypsy dead and it is said that if you are not a Gypsy, entering this cemetery known as Gypsy Graveyard will bring you ill feeling and thoughts of self destruction. Some say that if you walk around the back of the cemetery, you will get blood on your clothes. I have heard of people getting raped and killed visiting this cemetery, but thinking this is at the hands of Gypsy ghosts is somewhat of a stretch. Some people think this is an enormous hoax. That the timetable for the Gypsies arrival in this area predates the town itself. I read an article in which the caretaker describes pulling pranks on The curious coming out here for a fright.
