I have had some freaky stuff happen to me out at dewey's old house, we were parked out there on night and some guys with blood on their faces came out of the woods and started to shake my car, we all freaked out, (we were only about 16 at the time) scared the nuts out of us though, there was rumors that teenagers went out to those woods to sacrifice animals and stuff.

Alright, I went there tonight. Just got back. As far as the story goes, I would imagine that it has very little to no truth behind it. I’m planning to do some research myself, but I don’t much expect anything to come up. Now, for the site.
The road is neat. A decent amount of wildlife, trees, and creepy looking areas. The fence seems rather old and is surrounded by barbed wire. It’s connected by rusted chains. We climbed over and started to hike down the short trail further into the ‘woods’. To our left was alot of debris and the remains of an older home. As we had been told that you have to march into the woods before you can see the home, we continued down the trail. We got to the end and saw a rather kept looking home. A car in the drive way. Fresh garbage sitting outside. I took it that someone lived there. So, we decided to make our way back towards the fence and check out the debris and old damaged home. I assume this is what is considered “Old man Dewey’s.”
The house seems to have been ripped to shreds and torn down. Debris is spread out everywhere and certain sections of the home still stand. I noticed that much of the debris was common household objects. Old coffee cups and pots. Clothes hangers. A washing machine. A clothes basket still full of clothing. We even found some skiing equipment and some comic books. Some of these objects, and wood from the home were burnt. I even noticed scorched areas up high on some trees. It appears as if a section of the home had been burnt. I thought this was all very interesting. And, maybe to the believer or easily shakened, quite creepy.
We moved passed some of the debris and made our way to a farm like garage. Most of it was boarded up and sealed, but not well. The door was torn open, and nailed shut several times over several years, clearly. We gave a few tugs and it sprang open. Old bikes, shelves, and tools were spread out all inside. We made our way into the next room and found a metal ladder attached to the wall. It led up into the attic area. I nearly slipped climbing up. As I heard animals moving about up there, I didn’t want to be attacked by a wild animal, so I only poked my head up into the hole and surveyed the area with a flash light. Much like the rest of garage aside from a very cool spot where a single wooden chair sat in an empty spot around the middle of the attic. Very cool.
We made our way back and around the property a bit more, scoping out areas we may want to visit some day in the near future. Altogether, it was uneventful but interesting. Also, a very dark, cold, and creepy night. So, it was fun.
Only scary for the superstitious and weak hearted, but worth a look for the curious.
[No dogs, no ghosts, no bumps in the night. Just a house that appears occupied at the end of the road and a torn down "Dewey" place.]
(Edit: This was from about a month or so ago. I havn't been back since. I also posted this in another thread here on the Dewey place. I plan on returning sometime for further investigation. But, there seems to be no truth behind the legend.)

I have a question.
I heard that the people who live in the well kept house have the legal right to shoot you if you go to the dewey house.
Is that true?

They could only shoot you if they owned the property and you are tresspassing or if you cause them to be infear of their life. Otherwise it would be murder

Dewey's Farm is a hoax
I am sorry if I seem mean, but the location for the Dewey's farm on this site is wrong.
the actual site was 175W in Center Township, Valparaiso Indiana
it is long gone, there was no murder there.
Mr. Dewey passed away in the mid 80's, and he wife died later on in a nursing home.
the house that is stated on this site is an actual farm that has been in a family for over 100 years.
I personally went through county records to find out this information, not to mention a few sheriffs I talked to and the Valparaiso Historical socitey.
The legend started from a farm in Wanatah, it is one town over,
a family lost their son in a bad farming accident, and the child's name was Dewey.
so everyone tacked on the Dewey's farm to the deceased boy due to his name, and came up with more and more stories over the years.
But the house at this location 50 West, near an old graveyard. If you take 700 N going east, you turn right on 125 W and it's at the end of the road just before the road curves
is the Patterson Farm.
so this busts the myth behind Dewey's farm.
I have heard this myth since the 80's when I was in High school.
so don't be disappointed if you go to the wrong location.

Yeah, but wtf is up with the old lady's house?? Someone has to be taking care of it (there was some damage done to it and by the next day it had been fixed) yet there is no one there && the house is a complete wreck, there's also a car filled with newspapers on the property.. weirrrd

Indeed, it is a bit weird, but I've seen that sorta thing on many occasions. In Marengo someone had entire junkyard full of cars, and loads of other junk, but he also kept a house on the verge of collapse and you could tell that recent minor repairs had been made. Perhaps this is what happens when a pack rat has way too much land to their name.

Yeah, apparently an older lady had been living there.. but what happened to her? The newspapers are as recent as 2006 and all of her collectables and everything she owned is still in the house, kinda weird that she would keep so much nuts in there. And if someone is now taking care of the property I don't understand why they didn't help her out. I've been in the house and there is NO way she could have gotten around. Kinda sad actually.

Maybe she either passed away or finally moved to the inconvenience of not being able to move around too well. Some people are just stubborn, especially the elderly and refuse to change their lifestyle to accommodate their age until it's impossible for them to live that way or someone convinces them to make a change. My grandfather is like that, almost 70 years old with jacked up knees and he refuses to quit riding a motorcycle.
