i live 15 miles or so from the "first" of hell's gates as described on the force's investigation page...
i've been there now twice: once in the daytime, once at night...which was tonight.
tonight, i was sorta running out of gas, which kinda made everything just that much more scary...what if we ran out of gas way out in the middle of nowhere? well, we didn't.
i was driving, and i stopped on my way through the first time, flashed my lights 3 times, went through, turned around, went back in, stopped, turned off the lights and car, all as stated in the "legend" description...
i was with 1 other guy and 2 girls, it was perfect. we waited with the lights out for just over 10 minutes, all of us looking around constantly. the moonlight was kindasorta bright, i guess, and a couple of times it seemed like there was another car coming, but that never was the case. the paint on the walls definitely glowed...and i couldn't tell if the walls were "sweating" or dripping blood...we tried to be silent, but there were too many *comments* and whatnot made, so i really couldn't hear any sort of train noise or whatever, although i heard the "wind", my car cooling down, and what sounded kinda like rocks falling and hitting the road or the puddles in the tunnel...
anyway, at the end of that 10 minutes we all four definitely heard footsteps: slow, rhythmic, and way too consistent to be an animal or the wind...we didn't see anything or anybody, except i guess what our eyes tricked us into seeing out in the woods. no other cars ever came, so those footsteps(which also sounded like leaves crunching) really scared the crap out of us. it seemed as if someone was creeping up behind the car, crunching over so as not to be seen through any mirrors or windows. i immediately started the car, turned on the lights, and drove out.
then i turned around and went BACK through and didn't see ANYTHING. i went ahead and drove farther up the road, since another car had appeared. i let them pass and i turned around, went back through the tunnel, and finally left. we were still thinking about those footsteps three hours later when we got back to my house and sent everyone else home...that's all. i tend to extend all of my stories and/or include little, unimportant details, but i swear i didn't make any of that up, especially since all four of us could hear those same footsteps...yeah, it was pretty creepy and i want to go back sometime, but later at night...it was just that awesome.
