I saw an article on Moody's Light in Indiana. I have been there many times. My parents went to St. Joseph's College and so did my brother. That legend has been around for years. I can't find or post on the page I originally found. But I would like to share what I have heard about it. This story was also on Unsolved Mysteries! Way back in the day this man found his family dead on this road and then hung himself in the tree. The tree got so much attention by locals looking down this road that they cut the tree to a stump! This is in the Jasper County records! The legend is that when you pull to this stump and flash the lights Moody's Light will apear. It is his lantern looking for his family or the people who killed his family. I have seen the light many times! We used to go often and when the corn was down we took a Jeep and tore through the mud trying to get a closer look...we saw the light a little bigger and then it would fade away! Very cool place to go! Just be careful, the cops have been bad there lately!

When we went there it was pretty cool to look at. At first we couldn't find it becuase we thought the light was just a street light. Then we saw it go one and off and change colors. When we were there we didn't see any cops, I didn't know that town even had cops. Everything out there is just corn. Anyway it was pretty sweet.

The geography of the area would make one think that the light is indeed a car light. I've been to Moody's Light twice now and, directly north of Meridian Road is Route 49, which is very hilly and goes up and down. One could reasonably assume that the light is a car headlight which disappears when the car hits a valley in the road.

Hi, I am from the area, lived there for 18 years and have seens Moody's light serveral times (probably over 50)..
Things I know..
Old man Moody was checking his crops for a very unusual late frost with a lantern when some jerks decided it would be fun to rape and kill his daughter... He heard the scream, ran to go see, forgot about the wire fence, and like a tomato, it took his head clean off.
Now, in accordance to the flashing of the lights, if you are a decendant of one of those guys, he will kill you.
Old man moody (which by the way, division rd was changed from moody road), died of natural causes and there is no record of a rape.
One thing I do know, if the light shows up, don't fire your Springfield 9mm at it... The light goes faster and changed from orange to red immediately.
Now, some folks in the surrounding area are stupid.. This is Indiana for God's sake. They say things like the light went through their car, they heard jungle music, (the hell?), or that walked right up to the car and had a bloody hook, crap like that...
All I know is.. That town sucks, I hope it is a ghost and he goes on a rampage.

Wow liniux you've been there over 50 times. Must not be a lot to do around were you live. Ya we pretty much have a hard time believing all the people who say things like the light chased them and went threw their car. Thanks for letting us know how much you hate that town.

my friends and i used to go to moody lane. the first 2 times i was tripping pretty hard on some good acid. We didn't see anything. But the 3rd time there were about 10 of us. we did all the requisite light flashing and lo and behold moody. It was a light that seemed just like a single dim headlight, but as you watched it, it would slowly float from one side to the other. Then it would disappear. then when it reappeared, it was like two small red lights this continued for about 15 minutes. we were all pretty wowed. I never expected it to actually work. Whatever it is, ghost or not, it is definitely interesting.

theres no way this is a car light, i have been out there many times and the pics posted on this web site make me think that you are not looking at the right light. the light actually gets brighter, bigger and comes towards you and has a reddish tinge to it. there are also rumors of a satanic church in this area, which i believe my friends and i have found but we will better investigate this before i will say it officially. we also found the graveyard that is from the 1800s, i plan on taking pics there to see if i can get some orbs. i know of many stories, and there at least used to be cults out in that area, i do not doubt that there still are. but no this is not a car light, i guarantee you of that, and you should check out the silos, we heard a womans voice out by one, and we were literally in the middle of nowhere, so thats kind of weird, esp since it was me and two of my friends, which were both guys. im gonna do some investigating out there..and then i'll let you know what i do find out.

I live in Griffith, near Gary, adn i have been to moody twice. the last time i was there we were freaked out a lot. it was the 14th. first off we had 2 of us on meridian and division rd and the other two by the stump on the other side of the road. the 2 on meridian and division ( who have no sight of 49 or any real road for that matter) saw moody's light come out of the cornstalks. so we kept walking toward it. It kept reappearing further and further away until it stoped. at that time we had walked from division road to the house that is on that block. then the other 2 picked us up and they did the same thing. after while they called us to pick them up. as we drove down there we saw a light flash on and dart into the small patch of woods in the area. this was about 20 feet in front of us. Naturally we thoguht it was our friends so we stopped and yelled into the woods. then we say them about 50 feet down the road flashing thier flash lights at us. so we darted away to pick them up. so i still believe that it is not the street

and that same night we went to moody's cemetary. We really didnt see anythign except there was a dog (friendly thank god) that scared the living nuts out of us. the weird thig was that the dog laid down near a grave as we walked away and then it sat where our jeep was parked and watched us drive away. TEXTIf u do go there i strongly recommend a 1,000,000 candlepower spotlight so u dont have to use ur car. and binocularsTEXT

I have been down to Moody's a few times, during the day and the night. The first time we went we got lost because you have to go to the only 3 way intersection, turn left go down to the road on the left with a huge tree on the right...make a long story short we ended up seeing it and I thought it was a hoax. My boyfriend decided to take me back during the day so he could prove to me that there was nothing but the one house on the road. He was right and I was wrong...not that I told him that. But, after a few times of being there I truely believe that there is something out there, I just don't know what. I do know that if you are outside of your car, the light is more likely to appear closer than it would if you were in your car. Also, don't yell obsenities because the light for what ever reason turns from a yellow-orange to a bright red and halls ass up the road at you. If anyone can explain more about it I would love to talk. It amazes me, and I love to go down there and watch it...I prefer when the corn is down, you never know who is lerking in the corn field. We have had problems with college kids rocking our truck, but no harm done.

I'm sorry to say, Moody's Light is not real. A few buddies went out there. They walked all the way to the light and found out... It's a highway. I'm in school right now, so I had to be quick.

I've never seen Moody's light but have a friend who grew up in North Judson and has seen it many times. What the naysayers and debunkers never seem to take into account is how long this phenomenon has been in existence. People have been talking about this thing since Highway 39 was a dirt cowpath and before there were even automobiles in the area. So, no, it's not lights on the highway. What about the noise that it makes? I've heard that it sounds like a horse and buggy when it comes close. One of these nights, I'll get down there( d**n 2.5 hour drive!!)
