I realize this doesn't necessarily have to do with 'ghosts', but reading posts on this site has stirred up some memories from high school. I just want to know if anyone ever had any experiences with a place near Mooresville/Monrovia called "Joppa"? I see on google maps there is a small town called joppa, but I don't know if that's where we were going or not. It was off of a road called Carwash road, and if it had rained, you had to have a 4x4 just to get back there because the road actually goes through a creek. I never really knew the whole story, but back in the mid-90s we used to go out there because it was supposedly full of evil worshippers, there was an unmarked church that was their church, and there were spirits of people that had bad things happen to them. I never knew if any of it was true or not, we would just go out there to get an adrenaline rush being chased out. Basically we would pile in whoever had the fastest car, go out there, and sometimes spin around in the gravel or even light off firecrackers or whatever, and a jacked up old pickup with lights all over it would chase us down the gravel roads at 100mph and we would narrowly escape as the truck knew shortcuts through the woods or whatever. Kids soon started getting arrested for even going out there, and a friend of mine had a shotgun shoved in his mouth when they barricaded the road ( i wasnt there that time luckily), they were given a court summons by the man who lived at the end of that road, who was apparently deputized by the sherriff due to the increasing number of kids coming out there. I just want to know what the real story was, and if anyone knows where it is, and if any of it has ever been found to be true. I did remember seeing dead animals in the trees, but that could just have been a bad attempt to keep people out (if they didnt know why kids were coming out there, because this obviously re-inforced the story at the time). I would definately not recommend anyone going there, if they were chasing and shooting at us in 1995, it might be an instant ticket to jail or worse by now. I just want to know if there was ever anything to any of these stories, or if it's just a creepy place in the woods with some unfortunate people living there putting up with kids. A lot of the houses on that gravel road don't have electricity, it seems to be a choice though, as they don't seem to be really poor at all, but they aren't amish, they seem very backwoods and arent shy about their shotguns and giant 4x4s..
