Here are various pics around South Bend of places that could (and should) be haunted. Let me know if you have any questions. Former Children's Dispensary, now vacant. This building was built for children with TB and polio. There is even a sundeck atop the building because sunlight was thought to be a remedy for TB. I wonder how many young children died here?

Riverview Cemetery: My grandfather lived near this cemetery on the northwest side of South Bend. One spring Friday evening he camped at the edge of the cemetery with his friend, Jack. Back then, there were no neighborhoods around, only the gigantic Portage Manor, the county home for the ill, a quarter mile to the north. That Friday evening it started to rain. My grandpa and his friend retired early, to their sleeping bags inside of their small tent. They fell asleep to the light background noises of thunder and rain. At one point during the night, a bolt of lightning struck outside the tent. The boys woke up. Lightning struck again in the cemetery and they saw the shadow of a man outside. Terrified, the boys froze. Lightning flashed again and the shadow was gone.

Now that is a pretty awesome looking place to investigate. Though I've never been to familiar with South Bend geography...Isn't the area where the Children Dispensary is in, not that good of an area? Like near those something Taylor homes that are notorious for crime? My uncle used to live over on that other side of south bend away from University Park Mall and what not, and his apartment building was a converted elementary school...it was pretty cool, but the place was creepy to be in.

The Children's Dispensary is on West Washington, which isn't the greatest neighborhood but it's much better than it used to be. The building was only recently vacated and there's word that Notre Dame may be using it for some type of Hispanic studies in the future.
