Just a note on The Wolf. The house has many stories and legends floating about it. However they are just that. I have been to the house numerous times and knew the previous owners. A doctors family now owns and lives in the wolf. There are no recorded murders in the history of the house and (I will have to double check) but I believe the house wasn't even built until AFTER slavery ended. I may be wrong, if I am I will post it. Anyway the basement used to actually be a recording studio as it was used to make a film about 20 years ago. I think the title was Blood Bath in Psycho Town. The house however isn't absent of all strange events. Like most houses eerie feelings about and fleeting figures. I don't remember the lights thing, then again it may never have been brought up. The house is old and creaky though and kind of scary to be in but I'm pretty sure most all of it was my imagination.

ok im new...but have been in the area for a few years and not too long ago i read an artical in the news paper when the house was vaccant and they had done some remodeling and a few strange things had took place also nw indiana ghost trackers got a chance to take a tour and i believe...(not for sure)...got some readings with their equipment. I also drive past there all the time and always look, especially at night, the only thing i can say is the light in bell tower is sometimes on and sometimes its not.... I have also talked with someone whom used to stay there when it was a safe house/ shelter for woman...he stayed there with his mother when he was a child and remembered being woke up at night hearing horrible screaming right outside the room he slept in... Im not sayin your wrong...and honestly I have not done any hardcore research on the wolf mansion...so until some day i get a chance to experience the mansion...then i will bring u the hardcore evidence ive been waiting for!

Theres acutally a movie about it that we are wanting to see but we havent got the chance to yet. Dont ever say anything about the indiana northwest sucktrackers. They are our enemies. We are so much better. They dont give information out about any of their places, you have to pay them to find out crap. And they are crappy.

Ok i live right down the street from The Wolf mansion. I live in South Haven and it takes me like two minutes... maybe to drive to the wolf mansion. the story you have on here is one of the many that i have heard however... the main one that evryone who has lived around here for a long time knows is quite a bit different. so here it is.. It has been said that on the land where the house was built there was a battle. Not well known battle though. but anyways there were supposably tunnels built underground for hiding and some people say that if you look hard enough you can find them. the story comtinues after the house was built. It is said to have trap doors and The man who lived there supposably hung himself in the bell tower and that is why there are strange occurances there.. and he now haunts the west wing after 6:00 pm every night. that is the story that i have always been told as i was growing up. I have heard about the slave one and i think youre right that the house may not have been built before slavery was illegal. But the other one I have never heard and i have lived here all my life....

We knew a couple who owned the mansion about 10 years ago. The guy was a chiropractor. I can't remember their names though.. They had a bunch of kids though & my daughter who was 3 at the time spent the night there once with them.. The house is huge but not scary at all. The bell tower (or whatever that is up there) was pretty cool. It was windy when the wife took us up there, it felt like it was moving!

Wolf Mansion is in Portage Indiana which is just outside of Gary. Here is tha story that is known to tha Paranormal World.
Portage - Wolf Mansion - As the story goes. back in the day, the owner killed all of his slaves, even their children after slavery was made illegal. Some have even said he went crazy and killed his family, dismembered the bodies, hide them and then shot himself. Sometimes you can see the light in the bell tower come on for no reason and there is no switch for it. People have been seen in the windows when the house was not occupied. Orbs have been spotted. One person who did an install at the house claims that when in the basement they felt breathing down their neck and that something brushed against their hair. When coming back up the stairs, something was passing along their heels. Reports of doors opening and closing by themselves and things missing and showing back up .Hauntings include ring of the bell in the bell tower(there is no bell anymore),monks walking around, and screams.

Do you have directions to the mansion? Does anyone live there now? The mansion is on the border between South Haven and Portage. It's quite cool looking at Christmas time when they have it all lit up. I live down the road from it (In New South Haven), and it has always fascinated me since I was a little girl. There are people who live there now, and they have done quite a bit of work to it. They have ADT and they keep the driveways gated off, so if you do decide to go, I'd park at the church next door and walk. But be careful! Cops like to sometimes sit behind the church/in the parking lot and catch people speeding. I know some people who live down 700 N, and they have told me stories about the mansion. Sometimes they hear the bell ringing, and one time they heard screaming......but then again, this is near South Haven, so who knows what that could have been.

to answer your questions zeros someone does live there, not sure who though.. It is on 700N in south haven, right on 700 N and 450 W. If you know the south haven area you can easily find it, and i can tell you one personal occurance that ain't just a story. A long time ago when I was younger there used to be a family that lived out there that were very nice, we had been trick or treating, for Holloween, and stopped there, and inquired about an odd light in there bell tower cause it was a candle light that had a shadow behind it.. the lady thought we were messing with her a bit, until she came out and looked for herself.. at the time there was no light source or electrics up there.. and she freaked, but the house traded hands once again not even months later.. so I could say there is a presence of some sort there.

I am friends and worked for the Doctor adn his wife this place is haunted. Been to parties adn spent the night on occasion. My ex did work on the Cupla it is not a bell tower never was a bell it was used as a lookout tower in the underground railroad. I have read all the archives that go from owner to owner these are not allowed to leave the house. Wolf did not kill of slaves he helped transport them through the tunnels which connect to the Seven Dollar Shrine. There are graves on the property which are the childrens whom died from fever. It is a amazing home with lots of history just have to live with the ghosts. The woman who walks the halls was a servant who died with the kids. And Mr. Wolf died in another state, his son built the mini mansion down the road it looks like the mansion its self just smaller.

There is another tale from Wolfs Mansion. A woman was murdered here on her birthday and on her birthday, and only on her birthday, her spirit carries a lantern over the grounds. Her birthday is thought to be in early April. On Wolf Road and 700 North in Portage, Indiana

I was searching for information on the Wolf mansion and found this forum. Over 20 years ago my family lived in the house right across from the mansion. It was empty so often, that we'd sneak over as kids and peek into the house and play on the grounds. We never noticed anything strange about the place, but in our house, right across from the mansion, there was some incredibly strange activity. I had never heard the horror stories with the mansion and so didn't realize that these strange happenings could have been from the mansion. Once I woke up in the middle of the night to see a toy floating through my room. I remember seeing an old man sitting in a rocking chair once. In our living room there was a large picture window and one night a group of dogs showed up out of nowhere, they were barking and growling at our window. My mom was worried they would jump through the window, they were acting so strange and aggressive. She made us go to our rooms. The dogs then left and went to the back to continue growling and barking. I think our neighbor finally came over and scared them off. It was incredibly odd. I have no idea if our house is even still standing, as I havne't been by there in about two decades and I have no idea if our house was haunted or if it was influenced by the mansion, but odd things certainly happened there.

That's a great story Loriso!
I have always wondered if the houses that were right across from it were haunted or not.
If you don't mind me asking, which house was yours? They've built up the area around the wolf with a few more houses (There's a few newer ones right next door and a little ways down).
There's one house right across the street on the corner (of 700 and Wolf) that always gives me the creeps. There's something strange about that house. Everytime I go past it, I get chills. There's just something not right about that house.
I'd like to investigate the church right behind the wolf mansion. The church is fairly new (looking at least) and I'd like to see if it's haunted.
