There's this graveyard behind North Putnam High School in Roachdale. It's on a woods trail that the track and cross country teams run on. There was this family that lived there in those woods around 100-200 years ago (can't remember) back when hardly anybody lived in that area. Nobody wanted to live there because the trees were so big, that it take would forever to get it cleared for farming. But what these guys did was plant corn in between the trees. They had a small log cabin only a few feet away from this graveyard supposedly that contained their whole family. The cabin is no longer there, it's a cornfield that is fenced off from the rest of the woods. However, the graveyard is on the school's property. If you asked the middle school (it's attached to the high school) if you could go back there and take a look, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to show you where it is. The entrance is locked up with gates. Anyways, it may not be haunted, but here's why i think it is: The graveyard is pretty old, the middle school did a little investigation/reconstruction of the graveyard in an attempt to learn some history. The graves are pretty beat up, all except for one. It is the oldest grave there that we could find, and yet it is the most legible. It's tricky to spot, but if you look by this big dead looking tree in the graveyard and looked to the right, you'll see a big slab of stone, turn it over, and voila you see the grave. Now, we don't know if this woman's tombstone is actually above the place she is buried, the stone seems to move on its own. The thing is, when a few girls discovered this stone, they left it face up. They come back running the next day and it's turned over. Now whether this is supernatural or not is unknown, after all, you can't stay on private property for very long without permission. Some just say that maybe someone else just comes over and turns it back down so that the stone will stay preserved and sheltered from the weather and such. But not very many people go back there except to run and they are usually to creeped out by the graveyard to mess around in it. I myself have turned it over many times and every time i come back, it's turned over again. There are other graves that are legible, two of which are children's graves. (They have lambs on them) If you get a chance to go back there, turn the grave over during the day, wait a bit and see what happens. I realise it may be a waste of your time to wait so long for nothing, but who knows. You may get some good pictures, there are a lot of graves for what was supposedly a family plot. If you just follow the trail, you can't miss it. It's not that far if you go through the entrance that's behind the track field on the left. You can't miss it, there's a big pine tree (a tree with pine needles, not sure what kind of tree it actually is, lol) right next to it. I can't guarantee much, but seeing as how we don't really know that much about this graveyard and that there is a weird case with that one tombstone, it could be interesting. I would check it out for myself, but I'm not equipped, nor allowed by my parents to camp out in a graveyard in the woods. ^_^
There is a weird feeling that i get whenever i'm in the graveyard, though. Most graves are ominous because, hey, you're on top of dead people. However, you don't get the feeling of death here. It sort of has a lively energy, of course that could be from the animals living in the woods, but you get what i mean. Well, I hope this helps.
