Shivley Road runs east and west across the vast open prairie and farmland located just a little ways south of the town of Lakeville in northern Indiana. This lonely and desolate road is truly in the middle of "nowhere." Directly off of US 31 South a stretch this road runs through a very old and dense woods, known by storytellers simply as, "The Forest"
Historically the region was once part of the Kankakee River Valley that stretched from Illinois into the low-lying farm lands of northern Indiana. Since Colonial times this region was home to Native Americans who regarded this land as a sacred spiritual epicenter. Later on white settlers, in an attempt to tame the wilderness, began to drain the area to gain access to enormous hardwood forests and nutrient rich muck fields left behind by the receding waters.
A little known legend is told by a handful of people who have experienced first-hand the odd and frightening phenomenon occurring along the forested sections of this road.
This legend tells of a powerful Witch that lived deep within the once vast and ancient forests that Shivley Road transverses. A local Farmer was constantly at odds with this Witch, who refused to sell him land he wished to log and farm. As an act of vengeance the frustrated Farmer stole a book of spells from the Witch.
In retaliation the Witch cursed the Farmer’s land and household, causing crops and livestock to shrivel-up and die. This curse afflicted the Farmer's only daughter, causing black straw to grow from out of her skin.
Despite his plight, the Farmer stubbornly refused to return the Witch's book of spells, instead burying the book somewhere in the forest. A variation of the same legend describes the Farmer actually setting the Witch's cabin ablaze while she remained trapped inside.
The black magic still emanating from the buried spell book and the old Witch's residual curse is thought to be responsible for the extraordinary occurrences some have experienced while driving through the forest at night. Apparently Occult and Wicca practitioners are drawn to this area and practice their myriad of rituals that become 'enhanced' by this forest's already spooky aura.
Eyewitnesses speak of seeing multi-colored lightning bugs flying through the fields.
Visitors have reported unsettling and ominous feelings when walking through the area, including increased levels of anxiety.
The trees are said to reach down with their branches as if alive and scratch the roofs of automobiles that drive too slowly. A young boy traveling on foot was grabbed by his coat by the trees and even had his hat snatched off his head by a tree.
Extreme cold spots can be felt, even on hot summer nights.
Enormous ink-black shadows have been reported to overtake parked cars and shake them violently, terrifying the occupants inside.
One of the most bizarre accounts describes perfect rings of fire that originate from within the woods that speed across the road in front of oncoming automobiles. These wheels of fire have been incorrectly referred to as, "fox fires" and they range in size from small to as large as a tractor tire.
By far the most incredible account makes reference to a group of green-glowing humanoid entities that congregate and dance in the forest and surrounding fields at night.
Perhaps there is even more to the mystery of The Forest that still remains unsaid or unknown, with historical roots dating back even to ancient times. This is the only documented account of The Forest that exists on the internet presently. It is hoped that reading this will encourage people to come forward and share what they have experienced at this place, while there is still time…
