Katies Lane- salem/pekin Indiana...In the late 1940's there was a little girl Named katie Smith that lived on the farm that the graveyard is located. Katie wasnt a "normal" child. Katie told people that she had a friend named jake that she played with all the time, but when asked about jake she told her parents that they couldnt see him, only she could see him. Katie came up missing early one morning, she was found in the barn hanging from the rafter right above the front door. There was a note in her room that told her parents that Jake told her to do it. Katie Smith was then laid to rest at the graveyard on her farm.
There was a graduation party in 1976 at the Smith Farm where the barn and the graveyard is located. There where kids from the house all the way to the graveyard drinking and having a good time. There was a boy named Jake who was a sophomore at Salem High School that was at the party, Jake wondered away from his friends and into the graveyard. His friends Found Jake dead laying under the top half of a gravestone, No one knew what had happend to Jake, if it was a suicide or if it was a murder. The grave Jake was laying under was Katie Smiths.
Why isnt this on the website? This is the wierdest story that ive ever heard and its all true, ive been to Katies Lane and its all there. the barn, the graveyard, even the rafter that she was hung from. Her gravestone is still there as soon as you get into the graveyards metal gate Take a hard left and its in the front row, it has a round top.
Katies lane is located on Blue River Church Road in the middle of Pekin and Salem Indiana.
Go out of salem on 135 south for approx 7 miles and take a left on Shorts Corner road accross from a gas station. go down Shorts Corner Rd approx 3 miles turn left on Blue River Church Road Go down blue river church road untill you get to Blue River Church on the right next to a graveyard. "this is not the smith graveyard" The driveway accross from the blue river churches driveway is the path you want to take, walk down the driveway untill you get to a gate, cross the gate and continue on the trail back to the barn, (DO NOT go LEFT AND GO TO THE HOUSE) keep going down that trail and it will take you to the graveyard surrounded by a stone wall.
we always park at the church and walk back the driveway, i suggest you to do that.

Pekin Blue River - A local party spot used to be at the Blue River Cemetery, across from the Blue River Church. One night one of the partiers got a little too drunk and leaned on a humongous boulder. Somehow, as the partiers discovered, the huge rock had managed to slide on top of him. The man was crushed at the news. Nobody could fathom how that big rock could have possibly ended up on top of the man. An official investigation yielded no plausible explanation. There have been reports of hearing strange noises and seeing eerie lights in this cemetery before this happened. Mapping this entry was a tad difficult since there seems to be about forty eleven Blue Churches in this area. I don’t know how these people got back there! I have it

A lot of legends like this don't make it to the internet, simply because they are only known locally and haven't made it to the Shadowlands list or have never been listed in any of the haunted Indiana books. The Red House in Charlestown, and Lickford Man Bridge/House in Corydon are some other examples of this sort of thing. I know Scott has come up with a few new ones that were never featured on any of the known lists as well.
This place does sound really interesting, especially since it's all still intact. So the rock mentioned in the story Scott found is really a grave marker? Also why do you advise not checking out the house back there?

Pekin Haunted House-The new owners of a farmhouse wondered why kids didn’t come here at Halloween. The neighbors told them their house was believed to be haunted. Soon after, they were visited by the apparition of a young boy wearing overhauls. When they spoke to him, he fled and vanished. Objects are moved about the house and the owners attribute this to the playful antics of the boys ghost. 8178 South State Road 335. Washington School -Lights turn on and off here and people have discovered a bloody handprint on the backboard of a basketball hoop in the gym. 1050 N. Eastern School Road. forget!

Washington school dosent exist anymore, it was tore down about 40 years ago! my grandfather went there. the school is called Eastern now. Ive talked to a local that was actualy at the party and is a washington county cop now, he said that he wandered back there alone because the girl he liked was talking to someone else, and when they went to look for him he was underneath a gravestone. The reason not to go to the house is because the people that live there are pretty pissy about people going back there and wandering around. They are grand parents of a friend of mine.

Can the people living in the house see you checking out the cemetery or barn where the activity is supposed to take place? Or do they not care as long as you don't go bother them looking around the house?

they wont notice if you dont use flashlights untill you get back the driveway past the gate. But they will definetly not like people looking around the house, but ive never been caught or heard of anyone getting caught besides a group of friends that went down the driveway to the house and the cops came and talked to them for a while.

I've been to Katie's Lane. I was told a different story on Katie though, I was told she was raped and murdered in the barn.
Lickford Bridge how did that story begin anyway? Is it true a man murdered his family in the house located along side the road?

Not sure how the Lickford Man legend got started, since it's just now surfacing to us outside Corydon via a couple places online. Here's the story as I found it on StrangeUSA.com
"LickFord Man, his real name is unknown, was a evil man who worshipped the devil and sacaficed his slaves on the bridge under a fool moon. He was above average in height and would grow his finger nails out to cut the throats of the slaves. If you go and stop at the bridge and get out you will see him come out from behind a tree and walk toward you. You will tell its him by what many call the RED LIGHTENING Bugs. (personal experience: he is very dangerous and can physically hurt you. I have been in a vehicle that was shoved half a circle towards the river with the car turned off, and after we drove off into town LONG handprints where all down the side of the car) You are also suppose to have handprints from the young slaves who are trying to push you off the bridge to save you from Lickford man. If NoN beleivers, or people who go insulting the Lickford man, it is believed he can follow that person until he goes back to the bridge and apologizes.
The House, which is on the next road to the right after the bridge. One night Lickford man went crazy and killed his family and buried them beneath the porch. No exact haunting, but entering his house supposedly really makes him mad. (personal: Objects have been thrown, cars have been pushed, and figures have appeared in picture, and electronic equipment has failed) Once again...if NoN beleivers or insults go on in his house the consequences are suppose to be worse then the actual bridge. "
I believe I know the bridge that story refers to, but I have no idea where the house is exactly. When I was searching for it online I came across another article that said the bridge was closed to traffic in the Fall of last year.

Yeah I herd it was closed as well. I've been in the house and nothing was thrown at us, we did hear something in the bushes by the house and thought it was an animal so we shrugged it off at first. We were leaving and whatever was in the bushes came running towards our direction, 3 of us wanted to see what it was but our driver freaked out and demanded everyone to get in so we could get out of there. Guess he thought it was the lickford man.

One part of the story that doesn't really add up is that the bridge is only about 90 years old, built long after the time of "slaves." Unless this guy was involved in illegal human trafficking and enslavement, I doubt this part of the story is true.
Ghostryder can you get me a screen cap from GoogleMaps or some kind of pictures from the house? I really know nothing about it.

Looks like someone already beat me to it. I can try to dig up what I can, I can also ask Randy if he knows anything else about it.

The House is my mothers dream house souly because the deck goes over part of Jordan Lake, it was for sale about 5 years ago and we looked around it, it really is one of the biggest houses ive seen and most extravagant and is even mentions in the book "haunted hoosier trails". as for washington county school it burnt down in the late 60's.
