Me and my friends are trying to find lots of haunted places but what we would really prefer is building we would espeacially like to visit an abandoned insane asylum, haunted or not. anyone know of building around my area?

The only place in Highland that's on the list is the high school, and my personal opinion about haunted high schools is that they just turn out to be some story that keeps evolving from some who gets spooked a little easy alone, into a huge story about some guy they have no record of dying and haunting the place.
Other than that, I'm not too familiar with that area, so just check the list on The Force website, and I'd think the Chicago area would be better for what you're looking for abandoned buildings and whatnot.

The listing for Highland is for the High School. There is almost the same exact listing for Andersons Highland High School. I thought they might be the same but there is one critical difference. I found that the Highland Indiana story has an actual name to it. Bobby Haymaker. Found the death records and all. "supposed"

There are Many haunts in your area. A lot of them say Chesterton or Michigan City or Portage but they intertwine. Here is a good one, it has scared even the most experienced ghost hunters and it is not too far. www.angelfire.com/theforce/haunted/dogfacebridge.htmBe careful here and go with a group.

Here is a building that you might want to check out (providing it's still there) Old Apartment Building - On 1800 Elston St. there is an old worn down apartment building. Its been said that during the time it was condemned (several years) many bums had lived and died in both apartments. Voices, footsteps, and ghost figures can sometimes be seen.

"supposed" Yeah the name doesn't really add any credibility to the story, eventually over the years someone telling the story could've just thrown a random name out there and it got around. Just graduating from high school myself, I can recall the stories about our auditorium being haunted, the next county's high school being haunted, and the next, ect. I would also exercize caution entering any abandoned buildings. If bums used that place before, they probably still do now, along with whoever else decides to conduct their business there. I would make sure to check it out during the day, and kinda ask around to make sure nothing really dangerous goes down there.

I have lived in the Northwest Indiana area my whole life.
You are going to have to do a bit of traveling if you want to find something really good and really scary.
Dogface is VERY good and it would probably be about an hour and a half to an hour 45 from Highland (It's about 45 to an hour for me and I live in Portage).
Gypsies Graveyard is another good one. It is in Lowel which would be about maybe 45 minutes from highland....depending on which way you take to get there and provided you don't get lost on the way.
Reder Road in Griffith is ok....it is pretty freaky out there but it's not in a very nice area. I've heard some voices and some strange sounds in the woods.
Stagecoach road is also ok. Everytime I go out there there is something new coming out to play. But it's pretty hit or miss out there.
As far as buildings go, there is an old school here in Portage that has been around for 100 years. It is VERY VERY dangerous though because the school has been abandonded for a long time and the whole building is falling apart. The only reason I have not gone here is because you would have to either be dropped off (there is no where to park where you are not in sight of the road or houses), and because the building is so old I don't know how far you could go into it without getting hurt.
There is also the KOP out in Kingsbury, however that would probably be about 2 hours from Highland (And I couldn't remember for the life of me how to tell you to get back out there. ) But if you do find directions....that place is SERIOUSLY messed up. DO NOT PISS THEM OFF! FOR THEY WILL FIGHT BACK! When we went it was kind of tame (we heard whistling and saw things moving and the eyes...oh god the eyes.) But one of my friends went there and had giant pieces of rocks thrown at them by whatever is there. And the door slamed closed behind him. Very screwed up stuff.
That's all I can think of that's good and kind of around this area. I would highly suggest Dogface. But if you go there BUY LOTS OF BUG SPRAY! If dogface doesn't get you....the bugs will. ;D

It's this old WW2 ammunitions place.
No one really knows a clear story as to why it's haunted....I guess there was a fire that killed a lot of people. But because the government didn't want anyone (as in the enemy) to find out it's location.....everything about that place is pretty much a secret. There are no road signs or anything that tell you where you are.....it's a very creepy place.

Yeah we have a huge old WW2 ammunition plant down here as well, only about 5 minutes away from my home. I've heard about people sneaking in before, but I've taken pictures of the place from outside the barbwire fence and that even got a security car out there. I know about a way in through the old railtracks that go to the outside, but I don't think I want to take the risk and get in some major trouble.

Man, more and more people know about KOP... but, really, they know so little. It's sad.
